My Top 10 Philippine Business

Factors involved in starting a business; especially in the Philippines; but, it all boils down to what you're passionate about and what you're willing to do and endure to achieve your purpose.  Having said this, however, I feel that there are some ideas worth looking into.
During our year-ender special on the SME Forum, Alvin and I discussed what we felt would be the 10 best business ideas for start-ups in the Philippines. This list wasn't just a figment of our imagination. Believe it or not, this was a result of an entire year of research and experience. Well, I won't leave you hanging any longer; here's my list:
Number 10 – Business Consulting Services:
Just a couple of years back, this might not have been that lucrative. However, DTI reports a marked increase in the number of new and various consulting services registered between 2009 and 2011 (a 67% rise from 2009 to 2011).  In fact, my own business consultancy has actually picked up in 2011 (this is despite the number of new business consulting agencies that have sprouted up last year).
Some years back, the government and the private sector, seeing that jobs were scarce, pushed for entrepreneurship. Many believed that starting a business was the way to go; and many got burned. Those who embraced entrepreneurship did so without knowing what they were getting into; hence, experts in various aspects of business were needed to aid these would-be entrepreneurs in their endeavors.
Number 9 – Virtual Services:
A long time ago, starting a business in the Philippines meant renting an office space and hiring a number of employees. Today, however, many Filipinos, weary of the rising cost of real estate and salaries, are turning to virtual offices, virtual assistants and other virtual services to reduce costs.
It makes perfect sense! Why spend a lot during the start-up phase of your business? Going virtual is a great way to save money while "incubating" your business.  If you have some building space lying around or a service (secretarial, writing, etc.) you could offer online, this could be a very lucrative business this year.
Number 8 – Social Entrepreneurship:
I was watching Rachel Botsman on TED TV some months back discuss "collaborative consumption" and she mentioned something intriguing. Rachel said that the power drill we purchase will be used around 12 to 13 minutes in its entire lifetime. This is an amazing fact and shows just how much we WASTE.
Now, how does this connect to social entrepreneurship (or to business in general)? Well, Wikipedia describes a social entrepreneur as one who "recognizes a social problem and uses entrepreneurial principles to organize, create and manage a venture to achieve social change."  In the case above, the social problem is "wastefulness by NOT SHARING".
I met a group of well-to-do college students in 2010 that showed me how social entrepreneurship and collaborative consumption could actually turn a profit. Since these students were well-off and had their own cars, they would each take their cars to school; that is until one of them came up with a brilliant idea. The idea was to car-pool (since they were all schoolmates and lived near each other) and put up a car rental business for the cars they did not use. It worked perfectly! They not only saved on gas money; they also earned on the side.
Now, I could mention some other ideas that combine social entrepreneurship with collaborative consumption, but that would take up too much time. I leave it to you to figure out how to use these concepts to your advantage.
Number 7 – Backyard Farming:
Last year, I interviewed Ms. Daisy Duran, a big-time vegetable dealer who started out as a fish-ball vendor, on the SME Forum. It turns out; she started her million-peso enterprise with a simple backyard farm. This actually inspired my wife, Helen, to start a backyard farm of our own. We may not be selling our produce (yet), but we're saving a bundle on grocery expenses.
You don't need a big backyard for this! Take, for example, Ms. Ulyssa Marie Torbiso (owner of Cebu Hydroponic Garden - the Hydro Garden); she is barely 21 years old and started her business in her small backyard. It has been growing ever since. I wouldn't be surprised if she were to parlay this into a big business soon.
Number 6 – Online Training:
With rising travel, lodging and training costs, how do companies assure that their employees get quality training? The answer… Have them trained online. In my case, I have successfully been using some online tools (like Digital Samba) to reduce the price of the training programs my company runs.
My client, who is based in Davao, had wanted to send only two of their employees to attend management training in Manila; but they couldn't because it would have been too expensive to spend for travel, lodging and the actual training. By providing online training to these two employees, we were able to eliminate their travel and lodging expense, and reduce the training cost by 30%.
If you're a trainer or a consultant, bringing your training programs online not only saves you a lot of money; it may also open new doors for you in terms of clients.
Number 5 – Online Trading:
I know you've all heard stories of people getting rich by selling online. These stories are true. Take the cases of Angelo and Eireen Brenardo, and Chris Angeles. They have made a lot of money from online marketing.
Ten years ago, Angelo and Eireen bought truckloads of antique soda bottles and auctioned them off and sold some on eBay for three times their value. After that deal, Eireen was hooked. Her passion for eBay, selling collectibles, antiquities, art, etc. all over the world, grew; and within a year, the couple became eBay Power Sellers.
Chris, on the other hand, started selling rubber wristbands on eBay just to raise extra money to augment his college allowance. Two years later, Chris made millions selling those wristbands to bulk buyers in the USA.
These stories, though inspiring, don't show us the real picture. They don't tell us how dedicated and passionate these people were in doing their business. You don't simply post your items on eBay and hope they sell. You still have to work at it. If you put in the work, however, the rewards are great!
Number 4 – Local Outsourcing:
Just like "virtual services", local outsourcing is fast becoming popular; especially for start-ups and SMEs. In fact, whole departments (like Human Resources, Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Information Technology, etc.) can be outsourced at a reasonable price to companies who specialize in these services. This will help entrepreneurs focus on their core competence; creating quality products and services.
Another benefit we get from outsourcing is that we are sure we will be hiring highly experienced, competent and focused agencies (or departments). Why? Simply because these agencies have been focused on the same type of job, and have been doing it for different industries for some time.
Starting your own outsourcing company may not be easy at first; but if you're doing what you're passionate about, it won't be long before you start building a good reputation and start earning.
Number 3 – Alternative Power:
Several years ago, offering alternative power solutions (solar, wind, compressed air, etc.) would have been too expensive to market. However, nowadays, if you know where to look, you will find very cheap sources of alternative power.
As a matter of fact, I really can't understand why these solutions were so expensive in the first place. Take solar cells, for instance. Their main component is silicon. Did you know that silicon is one of the most abundant minerals on Earth? Why pay so much for something that is literally the dust under our feet?
If we do our homework right, we could make a lot of money with this venture; and help the environment in the process.
Number 2 – Electric Vehicles:
Here's another venture that would have taken our main-steam car companies forever to implement if it hadn't been for China. Yes… China! Chinese vehicle makers got the jump on a lot of these main-stream vehicle makers by coming up with their own fully electric vehicles (e-vehicles) long before the main-streamers could launch their own.
In the Philippines, e-vehicles are not yet that common. Yet, congress and the senate have already submitted legislature that would greatly favor buyers and sellers of e-vehicles. Once this law gets passed, expect an influx of e-vehicle sellers. If you're going to ride the wave on this, now's the time.
Number 1 – Recycling:
When we Filipinos think about recycling, we usually imagine poor people pushing carts, collecting plastic bottles, metals and paper from garbage cans around the neighborhood. Well, what we don't see is that recycling has already become a dynamic, money-earning business.
Certain enterprising individuals have actually found some creative uses for garbage; from hollow blocks (used in building houses) to compost fertilizers to methane fuel, and more! In fact, in one of the future episodes of the SME Forum (hopefully in February), I will be interviewing Mr. Jayme Navarro, whose Pyrolysis Technology can actually convert Trash Plastics into less sulfuric Diesel, Gasoline, & LPG! Isn't that amazing?

how to earn money with ebay

My friend Mike, a confirmed non techie, recently told me how he runs several niche stores on the worlds top auction site, and makes a profit from all of them whilst doing very little work.

Mike was the original information junkie, he must have purchased more get rich quick schemes than any person that I have ever met, so I was more than interested when he gave me an insider look into his easy Ebay incomes stream.

The problem that Mike faced, like thousands of others, was that he always had a great idea but no clue how to bring it to market, or no money to pay for inventory. This accepted, he went along the route of exploiting Ebay, its products, and its ever-flowing stream of traffic.

Mikes automated income streams run like this:

· He uses automated software to build a niche store on Ebay as he freely admits to being unable to do this.

· He joined Ebay as an affiliate and imports products already being sold within the auctions, the software does this and attaches his affiliate link to each product.

· He uses easy to apply marketing tips to drive traffic to his store.

· He generates sales, gets paid and ships NO product as the sellers do it for him.

One of Mike's income streams is based on a fairly well known rock band and works like this.

The store is built on a theme surrounding the band and merchandise, such as T shirts and tickets to the bands shows (they are currently on a major world tour) is offered for sale and when any product relating to the band is sold, Mike makes a profit for doing nothing.

Another of Mike's income streams is Ice Hockey, and he showed me how he makes a nice income from selling equipment that he has no money to purchase and I was surprised, I know nothing about Ice Hockey, at how many highly priced items are covered within this niche area.

Normally when I review an original idea I am put off by the cost or longevity of the opportunity, but I cannot see a limit to the potential of this business and the profits that it could potentially generate.

I especially like the fact that it is very workable and in a stable ever-increasing marketplace and perhaps most importantly, allows non-technicals like most of us to position themselves in niches that interest us.

As somebody once said:

"Find something to do that makes money and that you enjoy doing and you will never work another day in your life."

Make Money Selling Beats

Selling Beats?
I like to play around making beats in my small home studio.  A few years ago I bought a copy of DUBturbo and started teaching myself how to make beats.  I watched countless online tutorials and read plenty of forums.. I spent a lot of time on WarBeats.com following the countless tutorials (awesome site by the way).  Eventually I was to the point where people were hitting me up on myspace asking for beats.. and I was able to make a few sales to local producers and MCs for my beats.  But then I started searching around online on ways to promote myself.  I wanted to take things to the next level and make money making beats.  So I bought this guide and sat down and started reading.
What Does This Guide Offer?
I must say that this guide is full of a lot of creative ways to market yourself and sell your beats.  Things I had never even thought of before.  I should mention that the name of the guide is "Make Money by Making Beats".  It is NOT a tutorial on how to make beats.  This assumes that you already know your way around the ways of creating a beat on your home computer or in your home studio.  So don't expect it to teach you how to create drum patterns or bass lines.  BUT if you have music to market, this guide can really help get you moving in the right direction.   Have I gotten RICH, like it claims?  NO.  Am I #1 on Soundclick?  Haha, not by a long shot.  But I am moving beats and making some extra money that I otherwise would not have known how to.

money motivation

Employers know that money is one of the best motivators. However, are bonuses or cash awards always the best way to reward employees?
There are some circumstances where money is the best recognition for extra work, there are other times it is inappropriate.
The primary reason why people have to work is because of money. People are motivated by money the most, and cash is a fair and effective way for management to show appreciation to hardworking staff. Employers know this, and many companies reward outstanding employees with bonuses and cash rewards for good work.
But, in the same time this is demeaning, trivializing, and bad for morale. People are motivated by different things. Some employees have financial goals, others have professional goals, and others have personal goals. So, money alone cannot work for achieving everything. Since every person is motivated by something different, money may not work for every employee. Some people have motivation from within or intrinsically. These people do not often need rewards or encouragement to keep them motivated to complete or finish a task. They have the mind set to succeed. Others are extrinsically motivated, or need outside forces to keep them interested in completing a chore or tasks. These are the people that need a lot of encouragement, rewards or praise in order to stay motivated to complete a task.
Money awards are effective:

  •  Hunger is the greatest motivational force.Money is the tool to achieve many things in life. If you sum up them all, money does assume a great importance.

  •  Money motivates people, and extra money motivates people to work extra.

  • · Employees compete to raise productivity or standards.

  •  It is not always possible to promote people, so money is a simple way to reward workers.

  • Money is acceptable for all workers - some may not appreciate a particular present, or some gifts may be insulting.

  •  Money often plays an important role in someone's decision to join or leave a company.

Money is only sometimes effective, or sometimes does not work:

  •   If employees are highly paid, money may not be sufficient. They may prefer other benefits, such as an award ceremony or dinner, a club membership, a travel ticket, a car, a window office, etc.

  • Money may set employees against each other, leading to conflict in the office.

  • It may be difficult to determine the standard or basis for the decision to award the employee.

  • Employees may feel forced to compete.

Money is not effective:

  •  Employees work for a salary - they do not want to perform like circus animals if paid more.

  • Money trivializes work, which for many professional employees should be its own reward.

  • The amount may not bear relation to what the employee does.

  •  If the employer finds it motivating to award money, perhaps the salaries are too low.

  •  There are many other ways to motivate employees such as appreciation, admiration, performance recognition, fringe benefits, job security, personal growth, good atmosphere, top technologies, interesting products or well-organized processes  etc.

  •  Empowering workers with responsibility, respecting personal boundaries, recognizing employees as valued resources and creating supportive relationships will go further than just a pay increase towards satisfying employees.

  • Happy, motivated employees who clearly know what is expected of them and who are given the opportunity to learn and grow in their careers are much more likely to make long-term commitments to their place of work. There is no requirement of motivating them by money.

CONCLUSION:
Money is the greatest motivator for those people who want it to be because if people go around living and breathing for money than it is. Everyone does need money to survive but you don't need a lot of it to survive because there are some people in this world who can survive with Rs.500 to Rs.1000 in their pockets. Let's say that there is a stock broker or a wall-street banker, they live it and breathe it, they make commissions or get promoted with every correct quote or point or how much money is in their bank - that's what motivates them, and the same goes for someone who grew up badly, their motivation is to make it any way possible by making a name for themselves and staying on top; never wanting to return to their past life. A person who is comfortable living the simple life and simply surviving, they may not want to change their lifestyle because they think that money is the root of all evil or are scared of success, period or afraid of losing themself in the money but money can be a motivator but it depends on your outlook on money and what you personally want to do with it or where you want to go.

10 Businesses You Can Start

The following is a list of just some of the businesses you can start for $500 or less.

1. Housekeeping – Requirements/ household cleaners, mop, broom, vacuum, towels, bucket, business cards – approximate cost $150. Molly Maids is a multi-million dollar business started with a broom, a mop, and quality and reliable service. I can guarantee you that the CEO of Molly Maids doesn't clean houses any longer.

2. Gardening or landscaping – Requirements/ mower, edger, blower, rake, shovel, clippers, business cards – approximate cost $450. Some education won't hurt you here, but even without it, how much money did you make mowing the neighbors yard when you were young?

3. Internet sales – Requirements/ computer – approximate cost $500. It's likely you already have a computer at home so this just might be the cheapest and easiest business to start. It has been estimated that by the year 2020, nearly all retail purchases will be done over the World Wide Web. Getting on the bandwagon now may set you up for a prosperous internet business in the near future. Look into working with "drop ship" companies to avoid up front expense and storage fees.

4. Mobile food service – Requirements/ business cards – approximate cost $30. With a half hour lunch break, employees at many companies have little time to leave work and order lunch. Providing a morning menu for lunchtime delivery can be helpful to these people and provide a good source of income for you. Your job? Call in the order, pick it up, and deliver it; for a fee of course. Delivering 15 lunches to one company at $3 to $5 profit apiece can add up quick. Or how about a hot dog cart at special events?

5. Pool service – Requirements/ pool cleaning supplies, start-up chemicals, brush, net, hose, business cards – Approximate cost $400. States with warmer climates have many homes with swimming pools needing weekly care. Service to numerous homes in the same area can net you a small fortune. Business cards on the door or mailbox lets the homeowner know you are available. It may take some time to get a solid clientele, but be patient; established pool service routes can be very valuable if and when you decide to call it quits.

6. Consulting service – Requirements/ know-how, business cards – Approximate cost $30. What do you know that might be of monetary value to others? Sell your smarts!

7. Delivery service – Requirements/ the car, scooter, or bicycle you may already have/ business cards – Approximate cost $30. A great business within large city limits. Corporations, small businesses, restaurants, etc. may be in need of delivery services. Whether it is paper documents, payrolls, food, or other items, delivery services can be a steady and profitable business.

8. Painter – Requirements/ brushes, rollers, edger's, towels, tarps, business cards – Approximate cost $200. Visit local hardware stores to let them know you are available for work and will purchase paint through their stores. Their referrals may keep you busy for months at a time.

9. Handyman – Requirements/ basic tools, business cards – Approximate cost $500. Depending on they type of jobs you acquire in this business, a contractors license may eventually be required. Check with your local and state government offices to determine at what point you will need one.

10. Daycare – Requirements/ toys, educational materials, bedding, a safe and clean home, love – Approximate cost $300. This business requires patience and child care experience. If you care for more than three children at one time, it's likely you will be required to be licensed. Check with your local and state government offices for restrictions and requirements.

Most of these business start-up ideas will require an additional two items you likely already have; an automobile and a telephone. But otherwise, they are super simple and easy to start new businesses suitable for nearly anyone wanting to become self-employed.

The key to having a successful business is to do what you would enjoy doing anyway. Make a list of the things you like to do and follow that with an extended list of ways to make money in a related business. Be creative with your business idea, there are many more options available for you than you probably realize!

Types of Earth Moving Equipment

They are made up of five basic systems, namely implement, traction, control, power train and structure. Most of these equipments make the use of hydraulics and power transfers. There are many different types of earthmoving equipments and tools available. Some of these are:
• Backhoe-this is excavating equipment that has a digging bucket attached at the end. This is attached to the back of a tractor. It is used for digging the earth.
• Road Roller- a road roller is used to compact soil, asphalt, concrete, gravel, in the construction of foundations of roads. This heavy machine is used to compress the surface on which it is rolled.
• Hydraulic Hammer-this demolishes concrete structures or rocks. It also makes a percussion hammer that is fitted to an excavator for added benefits.
• Pile Driver - as the name suggests, this engineering equipment drives piles into the soil. Also the pile driving is generally used to make the foundations of the constructions or the buildings stronger.
• Excavator Bucket-this is a bucket like tool attached to a heavy vehicle like a hook extension or an arm which is used for excavating or scooping waste, soil and other such things.
• Grapple-this simple machine is a hook or a claw that is used to get hold of something. Grapple can be attached to other heavier vehicles or machines for larger purposes.
• Crane-this lifting machine when used with simple equipment attached to it like a rake or a bucket attached to it can lift or move heavier loads. It is usually used to move construction waste, soil, debris or waste.
• Drilling Machine-these are massive structures which are used to drill wells or holes in the earth. They are mostly used to drill oil or water wells.
• Bulldozer-this is a heavy earth moving equipment which is used to push large quantity of soil, rubble, construction material, sand, etc. It is basically a tractor with a dozer blade.
• Feller Buncher- this is a tool that is used for cutting and logging trees. It is a large machine that cuts trees without affecting any structures in the surrounding area.
There are several other earth moving equipments like combat engineering vehicles, graders, backhoes, front loader, tunnel boring machines, etc. They all serve different purposes and are useful in civil engineering and construction. If you are looking for some good quality earth moving equipment or a demolition company then you should consider the name Pearcedale Plant Hire. Safe During an Overseas Vacation

It is obvious that if you are going to visit a foreign country, you are not going to take your own vehicle with you. To explore the local areas, you will use the public transportation mediums. No wonder many people, especially women, travelling in a hired taxi have been attacked for money and other wrong intentions several times. Though there have been many regulations put forward by the government regarding hiring a cab only if it a registered one and not travelling in private illegal cabs for personal safety. But still many people, especially the visitors are unaware of these regulations and tend to easily fall into the trap of private vehicle owners driving illegal vehicles.

A better alternative to hiring a minicab is to book a rented vehicle for the day and travel wherever you want to. Vehicles from minivans and party buses to lavish cars are available on a rental basis in London. These can be driven by yourself or you can hire a chauffeur to drive you to the specific destination. With innovative devices available these days like smart phones and GPS trackers, it is very easy and convenient to figure out the different routes to reach a place. Whether you want to book an ordinary vehicle to be driven by you or hire a chauffeur driven Rolls Royce car in London, you can do it very conveniently online so that as soon as you are ready to leave, the car is ready at your door to pick you up.

To book a minicab online is a much safer way to travel rather than waiting for a taxi on the road side and forcing yourself to trust a stranger. Moreover, the possibility of being followed by a potential attacker is greatly reduced as you don't have to ask the locals about where to get a taxi from and having to tell your destination to them as well. The online minicab providing companies have various security checks to be performed to ensure their client's safety. Also, you can every time see your current location online if this facility is available with them.

In case you feel threatened by the cab driver, ask him to stop in a crowded area and get out of it. Your safety is in your own hands when you are at an unknown place.

How to Handle Customer Complaints

The truth is however, customers who complain are actually carving out opportunities for a business to improve its customer service and resolve any undetected problems for long-lasting profitable growth.

Research has also shown that customers who complain are far more likely to remain loyal to a business if the complaint is resolved quickly. The opposite is true of customers who have problems with a company but don't complain, opting to shop or to do business with its competitor instead.

Bearing this in mind, let's examine five customer service tips you can use right now to turn complaints into sales.

1. Listen Intently

Complaints are actually very valuable and they ought to be analyzed. Such data can be used to improve your products or services and analyzed to develop new ideas for product development. When a customer complains, it is well worth the time and effort to pay careful attention to what the customer is complaining about. Take this opportunity to talk to the customer about ideas they might have to resolve the issue.

What you might end up with is a goldmine of information obtained at no cost that can eventually be used to create more sales, simply because you listened.

2. Be Professional

Coaxing a vexed customer to be constructive in their criticism is made more difficult if you're unable to take control of the situation. The simplest way to take charge of a situation where an angry customer is in "full flight" is to stay calm, be polite and maintain professionalism. It won't be too long before the customer realizes he is overreacting and apologizes for his outburst.

3. Two Words, "I'm Sorry"

When customers complain, they are often seeking acknowledgement of the problem, empathy and most importantly, an apology. If none of these "criteria" are met by the company, the customer will walk away never to come back. Or worse, it may ensue into a public battle. Adopting a defensive stance rarely works with an unhappy customer, even if you weren't in the wrong. The best solution would be to offer an apology and acknowledge that the company will take full responsibility for its mistake. An apology is to the customer what a pacifier is to a baby.

4. Work To Resolve Complaints Quickly

Delight the customers who have lodged complaints with quick solutions to their problems. Many of us are familiar with the "I'll look into it" phrase, but never to hear a peep from the customer service department again. Stand out from your competitors by working to resolve your customers' issues quickly. Keep them informed of what you have done, checking to ensure that they're satisfied with the outcome and compensate them for their troubles. With customer service this good, your customers can't help but to show their appreciation by sticking around a lot longer.

5. Form A Customer Focus Group

Tap into the collective wisdom of your customers by soliciting feedback or surveying them on complaints you had received. This can be easily achieved by creating a special page on your website or blog. It's a good idea to do this because sometimes a complaint might sound reasonable and making a change seems feasible, but most of your customers might think differently. By gathering their opinions before implementing any changes, it can save you from making a bad business decision that could ultimately prove costly.

There's every possibility that you may encounter the occasional serial complainer whose only ambition in life is to make people miserable. You can spot such customers a mile away and they very rarely contribute to the growth of your company. Fortunately, these types of complainers are few and far between and don't make for very loyal customers.

The ones that do offer constructive criticism disguised as complaints on the other hand, should be thought of as your personal marketing consultants that pay you to listen to them. It doesn't get much better than that
