How to Transfer a Domain Name with a Domain Service

Why Transfer Your Domain Name?

Website owners can decide to transfer to a different domain management service for several reasons. Domain management service packages differ widely in their content and quality depending on the individual registrar. The best domain registrar for a particular website or enterprise might not be a good choice for another.

Many domain management services also include hidden fees. These hidden charges can substantially increase the overall domain management costs for website owners. Unfortunately, many site owners do not find out about these costs until after they have registered with a particular service. Happily, domain transfer service packages make it possible for these website owners to switch to a more transparent and cost-effective service.

The Transfer Process

Domain transfer is a fairly simple process. To transfer your domain you first need to have full ownership of the same. You will also need to have the full (up to date) contact details of your current domain management service.

Start by researching various domain management service. Once you have made your choice, login to your current domain management account and go to your domain section. Select the domain name you will be transferring and unlock it. With some services, you will also need to switch your registration details from ‘private' to ‘public' registration.

Next, find out your authorization (EPP) code. You will need to save this code and send it to your chosen domain registrar to successfully make the transfer.

Now go to the website of the service you wish to transfer to and load the domain transfer page or form. Take the time to go over the list of services as well as the terms and conditions of the service to ensure they are agreeable to you. Search for and select your domain name and start the registration process.

Finally, visit your old domain management account to accept the transfer on that side. The transfer process will take anywhere between 2-10 days depending on the domain registrars.

Keep in mind that a domain name must have been registered for more than 60 days before you are allowed to transfer registrars. What's more, you cannot successfully use a domain transfer service if your domain is involved in a legal dispute or if you are facing bankruptcy.
