Online Strategy Games

RPG's make up a category in which the user may control one or more characters that have different abilities, and the user makes choices on how to develop each character as they progress in the game.  The user can do things like use points to upgrade stats, find better weapons and/or armor, or further develop specific fighting moves.  To achieve these goals, the user must fight bad guys, accumulate experience points, and find other useful items.  Now let's go ahead and cover what makes a TD Game.  You can tell by its title that the user places towers to defend something.  That something can be anything that someone would want to protect within the context of any given game.  Playing these requires deciding what towers should be used to kill the raiding hordes.  Each specific weapon has different specs and costs assorted amounts of currency.  The user starts out with a set supply of currency to place the first towers, then earns more as the user defeats the enemies.  Anyways, the enemies attack wave after wave, and the user must utilize his resources strategically to defend against these attacks.  Some of the best TD games allow the user to set traps and/or weapons, then play as a mobile character with other ranged, melee, and magic based attacks to supplement the damage or other effects of the placeable traps.  These get the user more immersed in the game and prove to have much more action and fun!
Turn-based Games are pretty self explanatory.  The user takes turns to make decisions whether to attack, prepare for the next turn, or respond to a previous attack.  Some more specific decisions to choose from might be using boosts, healing, or preparing a weapon for the next turn.  They can be really fun in the context of fight giant robots or weird looking monsters!  They may also overlap with RPG's or the Withstand & Overthrow sub genre because they sometimes use a turn-based interface.  The Withstand & Overthrow sub genre is also self explanatory.  The user starts with a base of some kind, builds resources, and spreads out to take over and defend other bases.  The best examples from this sub genre are those centered around world domination.  They usually include varying degrees of difficulty to help the user learn the ropes before throwing her into a much more challenging situation.  The user must then find the right balance of just how aggressive she should be so she can defeat her opponents without spreading her resources too thin.
We've covered a lot of ground!  We have discussed all the different sub genres of what could be considered strategy games as well as some examples of what makes really good ones within one or two of our sub genres.  Without a doubt, these games will get you thinking and keep you entertained!  The only thing left to do is to play them!
